In Italy and the United States, there have been:

  1. An increase in the prescription of tests for the presumptive diagnosis of vitamin D deficiency, based solely on the separate blood dose from a compatible clinic.
  2. Indiscriminate use of bone mineralometry (BMM) for the detection of osteoporosis.
  3. An unreasonable increase in the prescription of vitamin D to correct vitamin D deficiency and prevent bone fractures.
